Spy Society

Spy Society is a hand drawn point-and-click adventure game heavily inspired by similar games made popular in the 90s. It's a cartoonish take on the gentleman spy genre of films. The main character Sydney is a hapless junior agent in the Advanced Society of Spies, trying hard to find his niche and perform his duties.

I began work on the game in the summer of 2020, to fill the free time gifted to me by COVID. Unfortunately, I don't believe it will ever get past the first chapter. With this project, I've gained an amazing appreciation for how games work and the people who work on them. I taught myself how to draw, flexed my sound design muscles, and put out some very clever coding (in my not so humble opinion).

It was wonderful to work with incredibly talented voice actors and artists, as well as the countless friends who contributed lines, puzzles, or general story ideas. It's definitely sad to leave this project behind me, but there is just no way I'd be able to create a final product I'm proud of in a reasonable amount of time.

Spy Society was developed using an engine called Visionaire. It's an amazing tool for creating point-and-click adventures. I highly recommend it to any developer looking to make a game in the same genre.

For the art, I used Aseprite, a popular pixel art tool. It's the gold standard for pixel art, and I believe I barely scratched the available features.

For sound design, I used Audacity. This has been my go to program for sound design for years, and I saw no reason to change that up for Spy Society.
